Infant Feeding Preferences

Our center currently has two infant rooms. The first room starts at six weeks to about six months, depending on developmental abilities. The second room starts at about six months to age twelve months. depending on developmental abilities. Each room is equipped with a crib for each child, swings, toys and various supplies needed for daily play, stimulation and interaction. We look forward to having your child at our center and helping them grow and enhance their development emotionally and socially while in our care. There are two staff members for each room.

Staff:

The staff members in our infant rooms have varied experiences with children ages six weeks to twelve months and beyond. They all have yearly training pertaining to health and safety, Shaken Baby Syndrome, Early brain development and everyone on staff has been certified in first aid and CPR training. The staff members currently work ten hour days, four days a week, with a rotating day off each week. Our center feels that this schedule provides consistency and strengthens the daily routine for everyone.

Schedule:

In our infant classrooms, we have two rooms divided by age and development. The first room starts at six weeks up to about age six months. Upon arrival, staff members will ask what time your child needs his/her next feeding. Please always have first bottle fed or a bottle ready to be fed before arrival as we have many children coming in about the same times every morning. Staff will have to feed children in the order of arrival. Children are on their own individual schedules in this classroom. Feeding times, naps and playtime always vary according to the day.

The second infant room is generally about six months to one year. If developmentally ready, a child may move to the toddler room within 30 days of his/her first birthday. In this infant room, children are served breakfast 8:30-9:00 AM along with morning snack and generally take a short morning nap around 9:15. Lunch is served promptly at 11:00. After lunch, around 12, the children arc laid down for a longer afternoon nap. The second afternoon snack is served at 2:15. Children normally have afternoon bottles during that time.

Medication:

If your child needs medication, it must be given to the front office and signed in. Medication is given one time only per day. The office staff will administer medication between 11:00-11:30 am. Medication must be PRESCRIPTION ONLY. All medication must have the current prescription information and correct child's name along with the correct dosage. No over the counter medication is able to be given by any staff. If a child has acid reflux or needs breathing treatments due to asthma, we can give the medication as needed. Please speak with the office for questions about our medication policy.

Incidents Reports:

If your child gets hurt in any way, the teacher that witnesses the incident must complete and incident report for you. On that report will be exactly what the teacher witnessed at the time of the incident, what method of First Aid was needed and who gave First Aid. That report is signed by that staff and parents and is then given to the office and kept in your child's records. You will also receive a copy of the report.

Items Your Infant Will Need:

1. Plenty of bottles for the day (minimum of 3 clean bottles)

2. Diapers (minimum of 6 per day)

3. 2 Crib sheets

4. Wet Wipes

Illness Return Policy:

An illness form will be sent home when a child has symptoms of being sick to where others may be affected or a danger to him or her. The child may not return to school unless:

1. Symptom(s) of illness have been gone for 24 hours from the detection of symptoms

-OR-

2. The doctor has signed a form stating that the child may return after 24 hours symptom free of any illness

This will tremendously help the non-spread of infection in the classroom. Also, to help all the children stay in a healthy condition, to where they can enjoy being in school.

Late Fee:

Our center's hours of operation are from 6:30 am to 5:30 pm. After 5:30 pm, the center is considered closed, and for any child left here at the center, there will be a $1.00 charge per minute after 5:30 pm. Please understand that timing is very important and that the staff does have families and schooling to tend to. The guardian is responsible for paying this fee in cash to the front office before the child can be dropped off the following day.

Dear Infant Parents:

Our center participates in the Texas Department of Agriculture's Food Program. This program helps to keep daycare costs down by helping to supplement the cost of food. The food program incorporates infants in this program as well and we are required to follow their standards for all children in our care.

The program is designed to insure that every child is fed with the most nutritious foods possible. We have also linked above the requirements of the foods they will allow us to serve to a child. For example, if you bring an infant formula that is not iron fortified, we could not serve it to your child and would have to substitute the formula we arc provided to your child to meet that requirement. It also means that starting at 4 months, we are required to start implementing a cereal, a fruit, and a vegetable along with the iron fortified formula throughout the day. The food must meet certain requirements to be able to be served. For example, water must not be the first ingredient of the jar of food, no mixed cereal with fruit, no meat and vegetable combinations or meat sticks. If those foods are brought, we would be unable to serve those items to your child and would have to supplement food to them.

If you do not want the provided food or formula, you may sign a form declining this however you would be required to provide foods that are allowable on the food program. This just allows you t choose brand and the flavor of fruits and vegetables. Most of the foods you are providing are probably following these guidelines already, so this will not be a change for you at all.

We appreciate your assistance and cooperation in this. Sorry for any inconvenience this may cause. If you have any questions, please don't hesitate to talk with Mrs. Veronica at the front office.

Thank you,

Tammey Haynes
